CHUM SALMON RIVER FISHING

WHAT: Guided day trips and multi-day packages on the Squamish River for chum salmon.

WHERE: On the wild Squamish River, located 45 minutes north of Vancouver, 30 minutes south of Whistler.

WHEN: Mid October to Mid November

MORE INFO: Every year thousands of chum salmon return to the Squamish River and its tributaries including the Mamquam River and the Cheakamus River. These are the final run of salmon to enter the Squamish River and because of their solid size and hard fight they have become a favorite of fly anglers. Chums pull hard and can reach upwards of 20 pounds.

Chum salmon usually move into the Squamish River starting in mid October with the largest numbers of bright healthy fishing being caught in late October and early November. You may have seen pictures of dark spawning chums 'caught' by people. We're not into that, with our guided fishing trips you'll be in search of 'Chromers', fresh fish right off the open ocean!

The Squamish River is located about 45 minutes north of Vancouver, BC and about 30 minutes south of Whistler, BC making it close enough for an easy day on the water. Our guided flyfishing trips leave from either Vancouver or Whistler.

BULKLEY RIVER STEELHEAD FISHING REPORT

WHAT: Flyfishing packages on the Bulkley River for big wild steelhead.

WHERE: Bulkley River near Smither, British Columbia.

WHEN: October through late November

PRICE: 7 day lodge trips start at $4695 all-inclusive and 4 day drift trips start at $3300.

MORE INFO: Fishing for steelhead on the Bulkley River and other Skeena River tributaries has been increasingly good in the last few weeks. Some early fall rain had the Bulkley a bit high and slightly colored but the cool weather has dropped the river and made it a lot more fishable in the last few weeks.

Steelhead fishing on the Bulkley River is some of the finest in Canada. These are summer run steelhead that are willing to chase skated dry flies and who've been know to chase big intruders and other swung wet flies from across the run.

If you think you're too late to hit the British Columbia steelhead season, well you're sort of right but we do have a few spots open at our Bulkley River steelhead lodge as well as with a few other steelhead fishing lodges and guides in BC.

VANCOUVER SALMON FISHING CHARTERS

Fishing Report: September 2009

What: Full day and half day private salmon fishing charters in Vancouver.

WHY: Fishing for chinook (king) salmon has been really good all of September. With some good size fish around and warm weather we expect these salmon fishing charters to continue to see solid fishing until at mid October.

PRICE: Starting at $450 for a 5.5 hour half day fishing charter and $825 for a 8 hour full day fishing charter.

MORE INFO: Chinook (king) salmon are returning to the Capilano River in Vancouver. Until we get a bunch of rain these fish will be milling around the river mouth waiting to head up-river. TROUT FLYFISHING TRIPS ON THE BIRKENHEAD RIVER
Fishing Report: September 2009

WHAT: Full day and half day trout flyfishing trips from Whistler, BC.

WHY: The Birkenhead River, located 20 minutes north of Whistler, has the its best fishing in September. The trout following the sockeye in to the river from the lake are feeding heavily on sockeye egg pattern flies.

PRICE: Starting at $245 for a 5 hour half day fishing charter and $345 for a hour full day fishing charter.

MORE INFO: These are all wild fish in the Birkenhead River. They move from Lillooet Lake into the 'Birk' to feed on all the sockeye eggs from spawning salmon. This is a beautiful little river that should be fished if visiting the Whistler area. Click here for more info on this fishing trip...

STEELHEAD FISHING TRIPS ON THE BULKLEY RIVER

WHAT: 7 day and 4 day all-inclusive steelhead fishing packages

WHY: Fall marks the beginning of summer run steelhead fishing in the Bulkley River in northern BC. This year 40,000 steelhead are expected to hit the Bulkley making for epic flyfishing.
